Are Your Children Ready for Slow Times?

Bible, Entrepreneurs, Raising Leaders No Comments

Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord,
And whose hope is the lord.
For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters,
Which spreads out its roots by the river,
And will not fear when heat comes;
But its leaf will be green,
And will not be anxious in the year of the drought,
Nor will cease from yielding fruit
Jeremiah 17:7-8

As I read these verses, I was reminded how important it is for your children to survive the heat, those times of trials. These might be spiritual or emotional trials. Or, they may be economic trials. As a family, we strive to give our children practical skills, in addition to academics.

In your homeschool, do you spend time outside the academic arena?

Or, do you only teach your children the academics of the public school.

For millenia, Christians have educated their children’s minds and abilities. Practical skills (life skills) will provide a means for your children to provide for themselves when the economy takes a plunge. These times of “heat” do not bother men who can think for themselves or have life skills they can “hire out” on their own.

When your children have practical skills, such as an entrepreneurial mindset, they will not fear the heat of the day. Their “leaf” will continue to be green whether there is a job for them or not.

Notice that God tells you the one who trusts in the Lord during trials will not be anxious for the year of the drought. The importance of spiritual training is evident here.

Do you train your children to trust and hope in God?
Or, do you train them to trust in a job?

If you are homeschooling only so your children can get a job, you are not training them to trust in the Lord. You are training them to trust in their education, or lack thereof.

Go beyond school subjects. Provide opportunities for your children to decide whether or not they will trust in God. When situations don’t go their way at home, they must make a decision. Do you rest in God or “your” ability to win the situation?

I believe there are too many homeschoolers wanting just the bare minimum of teaching their children how to get a job or a college degree.

You go through the “subjects” of school, but you do not train their children how to think on their own, how to develop life skills (entrepreneurial mindset) or how to trust/hope in God. As the new school year approaches, take a minute to evaluate what you are doing in your homeschool. See if your daily homeschool activities actually show your children how to “not be anxious in the year of the drought” or “fear when the heat comes:

Your children need to be prepared for times when there aren’t many jobs or many opportunities to make money. True leaders can stand the tide.

Hot Summer Seminar Series

Entrepreneurs, Homeschooling, Live Workshops, Writing No Comments

I am back from a whirlwind trip of speaking and sightseeing on the east coast. I had the pleasure of speaking to families about making money on eBay. It was a blast to see teenagers nodding and light bulbs going off in parents’ heads as families saw the power of eBay.

I am in the midst of posting some pics from our trip, as well as a new article. In the meantime, I want to invite you to the Hot Seminar Series this summer. It’s every Wednesday night this summer and you don’t have to leave your home to find out secrets of online businesses. My friend, Kelly McCausey, has pulled together a vast array of women to teach every Wednesday night. I was honored to be a part of this group.

Why am I telling homeschool moms about the Hot Seminar Series for women?

Actually, there are two reasons…

1. The topics being covered in the Hot Seminar Series are great for moms and their children. The entire family can learn from these women. You & your children can learn how to write a book (think: writing in the summer that your kids will enjoy), how to blog (more writing for your kids and they don’t even realize it) and how to make your own products to sell (even more writing and your kids make money with it)!!

What I’m trying to say is this seminar teaches you how to make money at home, but has all sorts of homeschool implications. Writing (as mentioned above), research, math, organization, developing independent learners/workers and much more.

2. While we were in North Carolina and Virginia, I met many, many homeschool moms who asked me how to earn a little extra cash at home AND they wanted to teach their children how to have a home business this summer. I know it’s hard to make ends meet with one income. That’s why I believe this summer’s Hot Seminar Series is perfect for stay-at-home moms.

What will you learn at the Hot Seminar Series?
To discover secret ways to entice your children to “learn” by:

–Writing a Book is Simple from Lynette Klippel
–Creating Information Products from Alice Seba
–Blogging For Pay from Lynn Terry
–Affiliate Marketing Made Easy from Nicole Dean
–Getting Free Publicity & Writing Press Releases from Shannon Cherry
–Research How to Mak Cash on Ebay from yours truly, Kerry
–Writing To Sell from Lorrie Morgan-Ferrero
–Learning About Your Market to Make Fistfuls of Money from Lynette Cherry

Not only will you learn these experts techniques for success, you will have an opportunity to ask questions at the end of each call. What more could you ask for?

You can listen by phone or by computer, whichever you prefer. As always, attendance is free, but you can buy recordings & transcripts if you like.

If you can’t log in every Wednesday or like the convenience of being able to go over the transcripts, make notes and re-listen to the information as you make changes to your business, I recommend you grab the season pass. Not only is it great value, but Kelly has also decided to throw in her personal notes and To-Do list for season pass holders. So you’ll actually get a list of key points you should be focusing on and accomplishing for each seminar.

Who’s up this Wednesday?
This week, I will get to share my favorite ways to get products to sell on eBay. You & your children learn research skills (remember I integrate homeschool with all areas of life) you can use on the internet.
Join me at 9pm Eastern time. All you need to do is surf over to Kelly’s Hot Seminar Series site and sign up. Kelly will send you all the info.  Here’s the link:

I look forward to being with you on Wednesday, June 20th. Don’t miss it!

Blessings,
Kerry

ps. I’ll be giving away an extra bonus to those on the live call.

Why Do I post about business?

Entrepreneurs No Comments

Here’s a comment from my FamilyEbiz Mom blog.  I thought it would encourage others who wonder why I post about home business.

Hello - I received your e-mail regarding your new product. We heard about you and your husband at a homeschool conference and I looked you up on the web. I, too, have felt a deep need to prepare my children not to just “go to college” but to get trained to run and manage a business and set themselves up for residual income. (Not simply trading their hours for dollars, as much of the world does.

Update & Weekly Article

After a wild weekend, I am back on track. I won’t bore you with the details, but our server was hit by a mail bomb (sounds scary). Our techies worked round-the-clock to get our sites back online.

Today I have 3 announcements for you.

1. Some of you may wonder why my last few emails were about home business when this newsletter is about homeschool. For me, it is vital that my children learn entrepreneurial ideas before they leave home so home business is part of our homeschool. An entrepreneurial education allows my kids to have the freedom to choose what they will do as an adult - work for themselves or depend on someone else for a paycheck. Entrpreneurial strategies also teach my children to think for themselves and become a leader.

So, I include some info about business in my homeschool ezine every once in awhile. If you missed it and want to see what I’ve shared, you can sign up for my eBay Explained eCourse at no cost to you. eBay is the easiest and best place for kids to start a business and learn a multitude of business principles.
Get your FREE course by going here: eBay Explained

You can also get my audio recording, video snips, and go to the head of the class for Secrets to Online Auction Success (with a 30 minute advanced notice) by CLICKING here: How to Sell on eBay

2. Over the next few weeks, I will be making daily posts to my blog about leadership education and raising your children to be servant-leaders, instead of followers.
You can keep up with my posts by subscribing to my RSS feed.
There are RSS Feed Buttons to get my RSS feed and get notices everytime I post to my blog.

3. A dear friend of mine, Marilyn Rockett, wrote an article about Finishing Well. I think this is very appropriate as many of you are bringing your school year to an end. (OK, I know you may homeschool year-round. Our family is always educating, but we need breaks and have one coming up in a week.)

Take a few minutes and read Marilyn’s article. I’m sure it will encourage you as it did me.

While you are on Marilyn’s website, be sure to sign up for her newsletter.

ps. If you live in North Carolina or Virginia, please stop by our booth or workshop and introduce yourself. I love to put faces to names!

I am out of town, but I wanted to post a quick note…

Steve & I just finished a terrific hands-on workshop that I want my children to attend in the near future. I believe it is so important to give our kids the skills to be leaders in their community and their church. The MIT training we received this past weekend provides the basis for my kids to gain financial freedom and gain control of their lives as an adult.
More on this later.

In the meantime, I want to share with you a few ideas to use with your kids this coming summer. A way you can get your kids started quickly on making some money this summer.

It’s some really cool information about a summer eBay business. It won’t cost you a dime, so don’t wait! Go here right now and sign up for my eBay Explained E-Course.

Over the Easter weekend, I took a short break from the internet and email.  It was a great weekend, but I never posted my thoughts Easter weekend.  I know it’s a little late, but I posted them below.

We had a wonderful Easter with several college students joining us for Easter lunch.  The guys loved the stuffed jalapenos and the fact we had Easter candy in our baskets.  I still remark, “Some of my favorite times are lingering around the table after a meal”.  It is one reason God tells us to feast.  Do you feast with your family and friends?

Would you help me please?
I could really use YOUR HELP!  I am almost finished with a new course to help you and your family make money on eBay.  This course can be used to make an extra stream of income or for your teens as a business credit. I want it to be perfect for homeschoolers!

It would mean alot to me if you would take 3-4 minutes and fill out my survey.  I want this course to be what YOU want and need.

Thanks in advance.  Go here to fill out the survey:
