Bored, Nothing to Do - Summer Activities for Kids

Filed under: Parenting — Kerry @ 12:40 pm

“Mom, I’m bored.  There’s nothing to do!” I’m sure you never hear that in your house, right?

Have you ever read the book by Peter Spier, Bored, Nothing To Do?  It’s about two brothers who are bored so their mom sends them outside to do “something”.  Out in the garage, they build an airplane and fly it…If you haven’t read the book, go to your library and grab a copy.  Whether you’re 6, 16 or 36, you’ll enjoy it.  I think I’ll go read it again!

The airplane “project” results from boredom.  There are two solutions to your kids’ boredom I want to share with you.  I think both have positive outcomes for your children this summer and hope you will share these with your friends & family.

Last fall I read an article by our local librarian.  She made the point that boredom in children produces creativity.  Think about it.  When your children are bored, they often find something to do on their own.  It takes creativity to imagine and invent your own “project”.  Remember the two brothers in Spier’s book.  They were bored and definitely used their creativity to build & fly an
airplane.

With this in mind, you need to provide stimulating resources for your children.  Resources can be as simple as the sticks in the backyard or more involved like craft baskets or lego boxes.  When they are bored, they can use those resources as they spark their own imagination to overcome boredom.  Usually, kids will find something to do because they don’t want to be bored.

Allowing your children to overcome boredom with their own creative projects allows you to see your children’s real passions and interests.

Another solution to boredom is pointing out places your children could go to cure their boredom.  If your son simply sits on the couch staring at the ceiling, remind him of the boxes of legos in his closet or the race track pieces under his bed.  When your daughter lies on her bed with nothing to do, mention the basket of art supplies in the family room.  You get the idea.

I realize busy moms don’t always have time to remember suggestions for your kids to encourage creativity.  I have a list of 206 summer fun activities for kids that I share with my subscribers every year.  You can find it at “Bored, Nothing to Do This Summer? Blog”  I read it myself and choose a few I’d like to do with my own children.

After you get this list, feel free to print it, cut them out and put each one in a jar.  Let your kids choose one when they are “bored”.  By the way, this list was sent to me years ago and I don’t know its origin.

Moving Sale

Filed under: Raising Leaders — Kerry @ 11:39 am

As many of you know, I am finishing seminary and getting ready
to move back to Texas in less than 7 weeks. I can’t wait!

But I hate packing. Man, do I hate packing!

But guess what I found. I found a box of 52 videos. Videos of me
teaching about 20 teenagers how to start their own business. As I
picked up one of the videos, it brought me back to the first time
I started teaching business concepts to Christians. I remember
holding several workshops to get enough practice and then hiring
a videographer to tape my last one.

Here’s what I taught those teens:

- how to view a business from the biblical perspective.

- the 3 types of businesses and why they are important to know
BEFORE spending hard earned dollars
.

- how to count the costs BEFORE they start a business…thus
saving them time, money and tons of frustration.

- how to come up with profitable and fun business ideas that even
young people can do.

- how to market a new business so you never have to worry about
finding new customers again!

- how to calculate crucial financial numbers that will keep your
business sound, healthy and making a generous profit

- how to price your products and services so you can get the most
out of the hard work that you do

- how to take a physical business to the Internet and beyond.

And best of all, I did this in a fun and entertaining workshop.
In fact, you will see lots of interaction on the videos with the
teens in the workshop. they even share their ideas and concerns
for starting their own businesses!

Now, in the LIVE workshop, I handed every student a workbook. But
I have re-created that workbook on a CD so the students who
watch the video can follow along - just like the ones in the LIVE
workshop.

So, guess what? I’m not planning on doing any more LIVE teen
business workshops. Everything I need to say about the subject is
included in this 4 DVD set plus workbook on CD.

These video sets sell regularly on my web site for $97. In fact,
Andrew Pudewa, the creator of the Institute for Excellence in
Writing (IEW), has bought them for his booth at homeschool
book fairs around the country.

But Andrew has already bought for this season and I don’t want to
take these 52 back to Texas. So, I am allowing you to STEAL one
of these video sets from me for $47!!!

That’s right. $47! But you had better move SUPER QUICK!. I don’t
expect them to last long - in fact, I will be surprised if any of
the 52 video sets are around this time Saturday.

http://www.FamilyEbiz.com/52only

Imagine. Giving your family and your teens the keys to an
entrepreneurial future by getting them this video set. Over 8
hours of instruction complete with workbook on CD that you can
print out.

This can be one of your core subjects this fall!

So act now! I will not be selling them for $47 after these 52 are
gone. The price will sky-rocket back up to $97 and you will lose
out on this singular opportunity. Visit the link below to reserve
your copy now:

Blessings,

Stephen Beck

PS…Please don’t get angry when the price goes back up to $97
after these 52 sets are completely gone. I have done my best to
warn you!

I’m Sorry….

Filed under: Raising Leaders — Kerry @ 1:57 pm

I’m sorry if I confused you about the goodies I have this week.  I thought I made myself clear, but sometimes when you read something over & over you don’t realize when you’ve actually confused someone. So, let me try again to explain…

I am giving away free to anyone who signs up . . . my special report on education and my audio workshop.

I love books and I wanted to do something special for National Children’s Book Week.  So, I decided to also give away some classic ebooks that I compiled.  These are available to everyone who gets my Raising Leaders package this week

Home School Material

(My previous owners got all those books, too.  I take care of my owners)

>>>  BEFORE YOU QUIT READING . . .

you ought to read what other moms say about Raising Leaders AND why I am giving away the classic books this week.

=============================

Kerry packs the e-book with TONS OF PRACTICAL IDEAS for implementing a leadership education. . .  GRAB A HIGHLIGHTER  or pen and begin to make specific notes of how you’ll raise leaders…not followers!  Diane L (www.classicalscholar.com)

———–

Thank you for taking the time to put together valuable training material on leadership education. I have been homeschooling 6 years and as far as I can see, there is LITTLE-TO-NOTHING AVAILABLE IN THIS AREA OF EDUCATION that has any practical application for homechooling parents to use in the mentoring of their children.   Cherie (Parent)

———-

I believe one of the most important lessons we teach our kids, alongside the “how to think” and the godly character, is being willing to do things differently–even from others who are doing things differently-to hear His voice and follow your specific calling/passion despite the possibility of failure or ridicule. No true leader makes changes in his world without that willingness and courage. Your materials will  ENABLE MANY MORE TO PUT FEET TO THE RAISING OF LEADERS.  Lynn F (Parent)

===============================

You can see that moms who are in the trenches with their children are soaking up the practical helps in Raising Leaders.  We are meeting a need that no one else is meeting.

WHAT DO CLASSIC BOOKS HAVE TO DO WITH RAISING LEADERS?

For years, I’ve encouraged parents to use classics to teach their children to lead.  A real leader knows how to think for himself.  He doesn’t simply repeat dates and facts.  He uses those facts to solve problems and make a difference for the Lord.

Classics provide the perfect opportunity to read and discuss real life issues, solutions to everyday problems, how to relate to friends who mistreat you and so on.  That’s why I’m giving you 7 classic books to start down the path of raising your children to lead - instead of letting them follow the crowd!

You can read all about the 7 classic books (in the big pink box) and how you can make a huge difference in your kids’ lives by showing them “how to think” instead of telling them “what to think”.  Let your kids grow into Christian leaders who will change the world for Christ.

Go get your free report & workshop here.  Then, read how you can get your 7 free classic books.

Home School Material

Once again, I’m sorry if I confused you in my last email.  I hope this helps you understand our FUN promotion for National Children’s Book Week.

Blessings,

Kerry Beck

ps.  Feel free to tell your friends how they can get 7 classics for themselves.  Just copy/paste this email and post it on your blog or your yahoo groups or your forums.

Want some Free Classic Books?

Filed under: Raising Leaders — Kerry @ 1:36 pm

Did you know this week is National Children’s Book Week?
Are you ready to celebrate Children’s Books?

Yesterday I told you I would send an email telling you how you can get several children classic books for free. That’s because I want to celebrate National Children’s Book Week (NCBW) with you. I love books, don’t you?

I get lots of book publisher promotions, but I rarely participate. They often don’t go along with my values. When I saw a week to celebrate Children’s Books, I knew I had to do something. So, I pulled together some downloadable classic books that I can give to you.

Are you wondering how you can get your copies?

Let me tell you…

For the past five years, I’ve been telling you the importance of using classic books as you homeschool. I’ve written some reports and offered some audio workshops that tell you how to mentor your own children with classics so you give your children a superior education to become leaders of the future.

…Who wants to give your kids an education intended for the poor, like so many schools do? I don’t!

————————————-
To help you use classics with your kids… so they don’t follow the crowd, I’ve got a few goodies for you…this week only!

+ Special Report: 4 Keys to Raise Leaders
+ Video: Start School Right
+ 7 Classic ebooks
————————————-

Sounds pretty cool!!!

Some of those classics include
–Famous Men of the Middle Ages
–Men of Iron
–Heidi
– and other classics you’ll love

>>> Look in the BIG PINK BOX on my webpage to see all the classics!
Use Classics in Homeschool

I’ll keep this short and let you read how you can get all these items for yourself, as well as how to give your children the BEST education possible so they lead others instead of following the crowd.
Use Classics in Homeschool

Oh yeah…don’t forget to sign up for my free report and workshop on this page. After you sign up, you’ll be able to read about my books and the classics that I’m giving away this week (It’s all in the BIG PINK box down the 2nd webpage).

Blessings,
Kerry Beck

ps. Let me tell you…downloadable classics are the way to go. I just got an estimate for moving our home from Idaho to Texas. They said we would need 75 book boxes…ouch! Ebooks are the way to go.

Has Your Day Gone As Planned?

Filed under: Raising Leaders, Moms, Bible, Keeping My Home — Kerry @ 9:04 am

A few days ago I was reading Isaiah in my quiet time and was struck by the importance of immediate prayer when I receive bad news or my day doesn’t go according to my plan.  Let me explain.

In Isaiah 37, Sennacherib’s messengers tell Hezekiah not to trust in God.  Sennacherib is the Assyrian king who has conquered all the nations around Israel.  He assumes he will conquer Hezekiah and Israel as well.

When Hezekiah receives the messengers’ letter, he “spreads it before the Lord.  Then Hezekaih prayed to the Lord” (Isa 37:14-15)  He didn’t talk to his trusted advisors. He didn’t cry.  He didn’t try to solve the problem himself.

WOW!  King Hezekiah’s first instinct was to PRAY.  In my imagination I see Hezekiah spreading the pages of the letter on the floor and kneeling!

O Lord of hosts, God of Israel, the One who dwells between the cherubim, You are God, You alone of all the kingdoms of the earth.  you have made heaven and earth.  Incline Your ear, O Lord and hear…

Hezekiah recognizes our Lord’s sovereignty and His ability to work through “bad news”.

I was greatly convicted of my initial response to bad news.  Do I immediately go to prayer and trust God to take care of my problems.  Sooner or later I will pray, but prayer isn’t always my initial response.

What is your initial response to even small pieces of bad news during your day?

On yeah, God does answer Hezekiah’s prayer.  God recounts what He has done for Israel and concludes that Sennacherib will not enter the city.  In fact, 185,000 soldiers of Sennacherib are killed that night.  When Sennacherib returns to his palace, his sons kill him.

I guess God took care of Hezekiah’s bad news.

Even if you don’t have really bad news, spend time this week in prayer when your day doesn’t go smoothly…when your kids don’t respond the way you desire…when small emergencies arise and mess up your schedule.

Blessings,
Kerry

ps.  This lesson of immediate prayer is exactly what young leaders need to learn. Are you raising a leader that will turn to God in prayer?
