My husband and I usually go out for supper to a special dinner. That is about all we do after 31+ years of marriage and 9 beautiful children.

My DH and I have never been big on exchanging gifts for Valentine’s day, however, the first gift he ever gave me was a Valentine! We met Superbowl wekend and by Valentine’s day he was head over heels for me. The memory of that gift always makes me smile!

Hi Kerry! Great football dip~did it taste good?

For Valentine’s Day we almost always make heart shaped sandwiches, and of course, Valentine’s sugar cookies with special frosting. (Secret Recipe!) Today my kids made a big sign for the door and also made place-markers and bags for some friends they plan to invite over. (The “F. F Club”~ Fantastic Five) We always save some candy canes to make hearts out of and do lots of glitter and lace cards. (Even my 13 year old son, which is cracking me up!)

Hubby is going to have to be REAL creative this year because he almost always gets me something wonderfully chocolate….but I have developed a sensitivity to it (the worst possible thing I could EVER imagine) and can’t eat it anymore. So……what will it be, maybe a heart shaped cheescake??? Hmmm.

I have a little poem that the kids have learned and used as cards over the years. It goes like this: “Jesus Dear would you be mine? Will you be my Valentine? All my life I give to you, Jesus take my heart Please Do!”

    Enjoy the snow!
    Nancy

The kids and I go to Cold Stone Creamery for lunch (yep, the only time of year that they get to eat ice cream for lunch!). For dinner we go out with my 90 yr old grandma (their great grandma) the kids, me, dh and grandma (my Grandpa died almost two years ago and we all used to go out every Valentine’s Day with both of them but now I do not want her alone that evening so the five of us go together!)

My Valentine’s Day tradition is to make giant homemade cards for each of my kids. I use pictures cut out of magazines and embellish them with glitter, acrylic paint and then I write some goofy messages in them.

I also bake heart-shaped sugar cookies decorated with pink or red colored sugar.

We read a great old children’s book, The Story of Valentine by Wilma Pitchford Hays and make fancy cards for each other. This year we are going to visit some friends that live a couple of hours away and will bring a Valentine treat of some sort when we go.

We make homemade Valentine cards, cookies & my dh’s favorite dinner. I try to make red foods for each meal.

My Mom and I assemble bags with Valentine candy and other fun stuff such as little toys or stuffed animals or Valentine pencils. We find different stuff every year. The kids make homemade cards to exchange. We usually wind up the evening with a romantic movie, ,but this year we have a choir performance and won’t be home in the evening.

We make strawberry shortcake in the shape of hearts. Red tablecloth and candlelight. Sometimes we read a book on the history of St. Valentine - if I order it from the library on time :)

Hi! When I was growing up, I ended up being sick and missing school on Valentine’s Day… fairly regularly. In fact, it was often enough, that my mother and I still discuss it… and, I’m 37 years old! :)

How I’d like to celebrate it is with a long, relaxing bath with a cup of coffee and some chocolate close by… in a room filled with no worries or cares. Then, I’d climb out of the tub and dry off with a luxuriously thick towel and climb into a nice warm bed with clean, white, lacy, cotton sheets and a red heart quilt. And then…

Wait! We’re supposed to share about what we *actually* do?! I guess I need to start over. LOL!

Hope this counts as an entry! :)

Happy Valentine’s Day a bit early!
    Blessings,
    Suzanne

One year I strung different size construction paper hearts on string and hung several strings in each of my children’s doors. When they got up on valentine’s day they had a wonderful surprise. Now they have taken it upon themselves to do the same thing.

I started a Valentine’s Day tradition with my husband when we first married. I make him chocolate covered strawberries (white and dark) and we usually share these together after the kids are in bed. Very romantic and special. And he usually surprises me with something. Happy Valentines Day to the Becks! I am glad I finally figured out the commenting, thank you Kerry for emailing me back to help me out!

One of our favorite things to do for Valentine’s Day is special for everyone of our family. We make a double batch of sugar cookies. I have a big heart shape cookie cutter (very large heart). It is probably about 6 x 6 inches. We make a large heart for everyone in our family, including Grandparents, etc… After we make them, then we write each of the names on the hearts and the kids decorate them each individually, taking into account for which person they are for. then the kids wrap each one individually to give to that person. This has been a very simple, inexpensive way to make the day personable to each one who is important in our lives.

We make Valentine’s cards for each other and for my mom (who lives with us) and get chocolates and candy. Then we decorate our dining room with hearts, streamers and balloons. The boys help me make a nice dinner - last year was filet mignon and scallops. If the weather is dry we even grill the steaks in the back yard. We make a special dessert, usually with lots of chocolate and whipped cream, then we enjoy a great feast and a wonderful time together as a family.

Last year I left little heart shaped notes with love verses from romantic poems and The Song of Songs all over the house and told my beloved that if he found all my notes he’d get a special surprise. He found them all and I treated him to a romantic dinner and an evening full of cuddles.

The last several years we have had a big steak and potato dinner with our whole family. The kids all enjoy it and we make a big deal about it. We lived out of town, so going out to eat would have been a big production, with a long drive and leaving the kids with my MIL, so it was just simpler this way. Besides, we can feed the whole family steak and potatoes for the same price as just dh and I going out for a fancy dinner! I do miss going out alone with dh, but we do try to do that a couple of times a year too.

Oh, I also try to leave them each a little package of candy for them to find on their desks in the morning.

I like the idea of making heart sandwiches for lunch! My daughter has a large heart cookie cutter. We will have to break that out at lunch time…maybe make some tomato soup to go with it! Thanks for getting the creative juices flowing!
