Reflections on Easter Weekend

Bible, Holiday, Raising Leaders No Comments

I was moved by some of the words my pastor shared this past weekend. I decided to share some of them with you.

————————————-

In the garden, God had promised our first father that the day he ate of the tree in the midst of the garden, that day he would surely die. This happened covenantally and spiritually when Adam took the first bite—his relationship of love and life with God died. The covenant of life that he had with his God was broken. Communion was severed, and that separation was a profound death. .

As a result of eating the fruit, Everyman lost his walk with God. Everyman came under bondage to physical death, a corruption of the glorious translation that would have awaited him had he remained faithful. And so Everyman lost it all; Adam lost everything. But in the immediate aftermath of that rebellion, God promised us another Everyman. The depths of grace can never be fathomed. Because the first Adam crushed the grapes, the last Adam drank the cup, all of it to the dregs. Because the first Adam pulled the penalty of death down upon our heads, the last Adam stepped in to allow that death to fall on Him. Because the first Adam disobeyed at a tree, the last Adam obeyed on a tree. The first Adam incurred death, and the last Adam tasted it.

Jesus died a universal death, and that this is how our Father loves to work. And that is why this death stands out in all human history. No other death haunts us as this one does. No other death draws us as this one does, as Jesus declared that it would. He promised us that when He was lifted up He would draw all men to Himself. So no other death wounds as this one does, and no other death heals as this one does. No other death compels.

The apostle Paul put it this way:

“I am crucified with Christ. Nevertheless I live, yet not I, but Christ liveth in me, and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me” (Gal. 2:20). He was not speaking of his experience alone. Anyone who looks to Jesus in faith in this way participates in His death. Haven’t you heard? Those of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death. (Rom. 6:3). Read the rest…

Fresh, New Easter Activities

Bible, Holiday, Inspire You Children, Moms No Comments

Easter Week is upon us and I am ready to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.  I hope you are ready, also?  I have a cool activity and book I found that I want to tell you about.  Before I do that, I must thank you for your support during our firesale.  This morning I was thanking God for his blessing to our family and the way He always provides!  Thanks for being His instrument.

We bought a used car for now.  My girls have commandeered it with a flower steering wheel cover and plastic flip-flop hanging from the the rear view mirror.  I think seat covers are next.  Steve says he’s not driving it if they add their fuzzy dice to the dash.  This was the perfect comment to keep Dad from driving the new car, or so they thought!  If you have teens, I’m sure you can relate!

Enough about cars.  Let’s talk about Easter!

Many of you have written emails asking if I have an Easter book like my Christmas-Advent Celebration Package.  It’s in the works, but not ready this year.  But, don’t be too disappointed.  I found another book that you might want (and it’s an ebook so there is not waiting for it to arrive this week!)

Jesus: The Life-Giver is an Easter devotional with verses and discussion for every day this week, leading up to Easter Sunday.  I think it is perfect for some of you.

Besides telling you about this Easter devotional, I have a cooking object lesson for you to use with your children.  Have you ever wanted to “show” your children and inspire them in understanding the resurrection?  This activity is just for you.

Have a beautiful, joyous and praise-worthy Easter week.

ps.  Watch your email for my second suprise I announced last week.  It should be ready in a couple of days!!!

Resurrection Buns-Easter Object Lesson

Holiday, Inspire You Children, Love of Learning, Raising Leaders No Comments

We have our traditions at Easter time, as I’m sure your family does.  Each year we make Resurrection Buns on Saturday evening.  They rise overnight and are ready for breakfast.  The cool thing about these buns is that the marshmallow you use on Saturday is gone after you bake them on Sunday.  The first time we baked these, my kids were fascinated.  They sure look forward to these each year.  (sorry this is probably a repeat, but we love it…………)

RESURRECTION BUNS

biscuit dough (homemade or popped out of the can)
large marshmallows
melted butter
cinnamon sugar

Roll out lumps of dough into 4 inch circles.  Wrap each dough circle around marshmallow & close tightly.  Roll the dough in melted butter and then in a cinnamon & sugar mixture.  Place in well-greased pans.  Let rise overnight.  Bake at 350 degrees until golden brown.  The marshmallows will melt and leave a sticky (& yummy) syrup in the buns.

Enjoy…and inspire your kids to learn more about Jesus Christ’s resurrection!
