Star of Bethlehem DVD is Available

Filed under: Raising Leaders, Christmas, Homeschooling, Bible — Kerry @ 3:30 pm

Did you enjoy your Advent Countdown?
I was so encouraged from your many emails. The Advent Countdown was a huge success. Thanks!

Did you learn a lot from the Star of Bethlehem Family Study Guide?
(If you don’t have a copy, read on because I have something for you.)

We are still finishing our family study and anxiously awaiting the Star of Bethlehem DVD. That’s right, the Star of Bethlehem was recently released in DVD format. In the past, you could only watch the Star of Bethlehem presentation at a live event. Now, you can watch it in the comfort of your own home.

Even if you didn’t get your own copy of the Star of Bethlehem Family Study Guide, you can learn about the skies over Bethlehem at this time of year. You will be amazed at the way Scripture and the stars coincide to tell the story of our Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ. This DVD will encourage family discussions…great for raising leaders, not followers!

The author of this film, Rick Larson, is allowing me to sell DVDs for him. For the next 4 days, I am offering FREE shipping if you pre-order the dvd.

Take a minute right now and get your own copy. Read all about it here: Star of Bethlehem DVD

Scrapbooking Christmas Memories

Filed under: Christmas, Scrapbooking — Kerry @ 12:15 pm

(don’t miss coupons at end of article)
by Deborah Smith

Even people who rarely pick up their camera during the year, take pictures at Christmas. We all want to capture the warm memories of family and friends that Christmas brings.

Too often though, we forget to take pictures of the very things that our memories are made of getting the Christmas tree, baking, decking the halls, or the tree lit up at night after Santa has filled it with presents!

Bethlehem Star in The First Noel

Filed under: Christmas, Bible — Kerry @ 8:57 pm

Last year I shared how I better understood “O Come All Ye Faithful” after singing it on Christmas Eve. This year, God reminded me of His Omnipotence as I sang “The First Noel”. If you are studying the Star of Bethlehem like our family, you will recognize many of these lines from Matthew 2.

And by the light of that same star
Three Wise Men came from country far;
To seek for a King was their intent,
And to follow the star wherever it went.

This star drew nigh to the norhtwest,
O’er Bethlehem it took its rest;
And there it did both stop and stay,
Right over the place where Jesus lay.
He moved the star to stand still over Bethlehem.

The First Noel, verses 3-4

I’ve sung this carol for many years, but didn’t recognize the Scripture included in these two verses. I’ve read and re-read Matthew 2 this past week and saw ideas I’ve thought about recently.

The Three Wise Men knew they were seeking the King of Jews. Herod knew this, too. The star would direct them to the King so they could worship Him.

The Wise Men move from east to west as they go to worship the King. When men move toward God, they move from east to west. Remember Abraham moved from Ur to Palestine (east to west) as he followed God’s call to be the father of a great nation.

The star did a magnificent thing…it stopped!! It stood still over Jesus home in Bethlehem.

The next time you sing Christmas carols, I hope God reminds you of His story from Scripture. It is awesome!

I Was Truly Encouraged

Filed under: Raising Leaders, Homeschooling — Kerry @ 5:47 pm

This morning, I received the following email.  I must say…I was encouraged.  Sometimes I wonder what becomes of my posts and newsletters.  Thanks for the encouragement.  I needed it this morning!
Kerry

I wanted to say thanks to you for pouring yourself into homeschooling moms and their families.  Your writings and thoughts have influenced the way I homeschool my children (for the better).

There is a great need in the homeschooling community for people like you who are willing to take the large amounts of information and philosophies out there and synthesize them into meaningful chunks of applicable information. I think your newsletter is one of the best out there for homeschooling moms. You are a great teacher and communicator. You speak with truth and the right amount of grace and encouragement so that someone like me feels inspired by what I’ve read rather than intimidated.

 Kerry, thank you again.

Still Dreamin’ of a White Christmas

Filed under: Christmas — Kerry @ 5:44 pm

This morning I awoke to a blanket of snow.  Everyone walked downstairs remarking, “We’re going to have a White Christmas.”  As the day wore on and the snow turned to rain, we aren’t so sure anymore.

We’ve been in Idaho for 2 years with no White Christmas, yet.  If the temp stays down and we get a small snow fall, we might have a White Christmas.  I guess, we just have to wait until Monday.

Learn Both: To Give and To Receive

Filed under: Raising Leaders, Christmas — Kerry @ 9:35 am

During Christmas, we often want to teach our children that it is more blessed to give than receive. There is truth in that, but I’d like to share both sides of this quote:

Learn to Give
Giving is unique in America and we must fight to teach our children the joy of giving. I listened to a cd this week that suggested a fantastic way to give at Christmas.

When your children receive Christmas money, why not have an organization for them to donate some or all of their money. If your family is involved in a great cause, your children will get excited to donate to that cause. When Dad & Mom are enthusiastic, your children become enthusiastic, too.

A few months ago, we adopted a young boy through Compassion International. For $32 a month, we supply his food, clothing, school books and other needs. Most of all, they learn of Christ’s love for them and their family. The gospel is clearly presented and many trust in Jesus through this effort. Not only do the children become Christians; many families trust in Jesus as their Savior, as well.

We have written our young boy a few letters and received a coloring from him. His tutor wrote us a note with the drawing. Both the drawing and his picture hang on our refrigerator. Our children are taking turns writing him a letter.

Since that time, my oldest daughter decided she wanted to adopt another child with the money she is making. Her brother and sister may join her in this effort. They plan to look at the Compassion International website and choose a child to support.

How Does this Help YOUR Children Learn to Give?
Why not let your children use their Christmas money as a donation to support a child through Compassion International. You can spend Christmas afternoon looking on their website and choosing the child you want to support.

On to Receiving…
It appears that many parents don’t want to teach their children about receiving. They believe it is too self-centered. (And it can be!) I disagree with this perspective. I think it is imperative that we teach our children to receive WELL.

To start, your children should learn to receive, graciously! Do your children automatically say, “thank you” when they are given a gift, a ride home, or a chance to spend the night? If not, you need to begin teaching “thank you” immediately. This is imperative and many children don’t know how to appreciate others’ gifts.

Even more important than learning to say, “thank you”, your children need to learn to recieve the greatest gift of all. If you don’t allow them to receive this gift, they are doomed.

You see, Jesus Christ was not born to develop a Christmas holiday for us…so you & I could exchange gifts, have Christmas parties or send Christmas cards to one another. Jesus Christ came to earth because we are all sinners. America’s Christmas does not include sin in the story of Jesus in the manger. Yet, sin is the reason Jesus was born to Mary & Joseph long ago in Bethlehem.

If Jesus had not lived the life of a perfect (sinless) man and taken your punishment for your sin, you would be doomed!

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 3:23

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9

Receive today the best Christmas gift of all…eternal life in heaven!

Merry Christmas!

Kerry
